Background

You should:

  • Study electrical engineering, computer engineering, mechatronics, embedded systems, or a related discipline
  • Have experience with PCB design
  • Have experience programming microcontrollers
  • Be familiar with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, or power measurement tools
  • Be interested in wearable devices and miniature sensor systems
  • Be able to work independently and systematically
  • Be fluent in English or German

It would be great if you:

  • Have experience with Bluetooth Low Energy
  • Have worked with environmental or particulate-matter sensors
  • Have experience soldering and debugging small PCBs
  • Have experience with mechanical prototyping or 3D printing

The exact scope will be adapted to the requirements of a Bachelor’s or Master’s thesis.

Tasks

  • Analyze the technical and wearable-design requirements of Airable
  • Select suitable miniature sensors for particulate matter and environmental parameters
  • Design the system architecture and PCB
  • Integrate a microcontroller, Bluetooth Low Energy, power management, and battery
  • Assemble, program, and debug the prototype
  • Develop embedded firmware for sensor acquisition and wireless data transmission
  • Evaluate sensor performance, energy consumption, thermal behavior, and wearability
  • Document the design decisions and propose improvements for future prototypes

Application

Please include a short paragraph explaining your motivation, your CV, your study program (Bachelor/Master), current semester and field of study, a transcript of records with courses and grades, your programming experience, and any areas of interest relevant to the topic.
